Disabling Gnome-Software Made My PC Run Better

   Do any of you that run Ubuntu(or any Distro that uses Gnome) have an issue when letting Gnome-Software(which is the automatic update utility, is set to on by default, and required removing from startup apps to disable) run? I was having some serious over-heating issues and my CPU was running at 100% non-stop on a semi-fresh install. I tracked it all to "Gnome-Software", and after disabling it, things are way better. I had programs crashing, my cursor kept repositioning to the upper left of my screen(which I think may have been to the touch-screen resetting due to something crashing), my SP3 was extremely hot to the touch, the fans were blasting non-stop on it, everything was running slow...
   
   After disabling, it's quiet, warm but not hot, no fans running, everything is running smooth, no cursor problem, just running great. Way faster, smooth and enjoyable. Completely different.
   
   I searched around and it looks like other have had the same problem. I'm wondering if I should do the same on my desktop PC...

   I've never really liked the big desktop suites like Gnome or KDE pretty much for that reason - they're heaps bulky and loaded with stuff I never use

   What is it you use? Do you just use the command line, or do you use a more limited desktop-type?

   it's a pretty minimal openbox distro; very similar to how I had raw debian set up except more slick. I recommend it if you want to give something lighter a try; there's a livecd/usb available

   Do you get screen tearing with openbox? I always have this problem with lightweight window managers, particularly on intel graphics, and haven't figure out a good way to solve it.

   yeah, but that's not specific to openbox; everything seems to suffer from it to some extent
   
   for the most part I can just ignore it though - I haven't really looked into it yet. it only really bugs me when I use bumblebee for games and I assumed in that regard the current lunix drivers for my dedicated GPU don't have all the latest extensions; V-Sync and a few other features seem to do nothing
