The good thing when you pay directly is you don't have to wait 18 months for a hernia operation like you do on the NHS.

I would much rather prefer that. Everytime I went to the hospital it cost me weeks of time, appointments, having to structure entire days around the hospital of which I am forced to wait. I have NO OPTION no matter how much money I have or how busy my schedule is, the hospital will not work with me. I Am working for them and paying the taxes that funds them
socialized healthcare is only good for when you are about to die you can get saved for free. Besides that you are paying top dollar for bottom dollar non market consumer forcused service where they will tell you to just take a number and wait

You have an option I'm sure.
Just like in the UK you have the option to go private. The example I gave of the hernia operation related to my dad...he was told he'd have to wait 18 months on the NHS to get it fixed...instead my brother and I clubbed together and paid for him to have it taken care of privately...in 6 weeks.
