I used to have other kids hold me down and put a bucket over my head and bang on the sides of the bucket when I was like 2-5 years old and it would just scare the shit out of me and they'd make me beg for me to stop and I'd be crying and screaming and it'd be liek 5-6 kids holding me odwn and banging on the bucket and screaming. It was 0 actual pain but the psychological terror was very intense. I remember and there was 1 old lady who ran the 'daycare' but she kinda just hung out upstairs in the living room with the youngest of the children so the older ones would play int eh basement and it was extremely frightening and something that stuck with me.
Just that pure, childhood terror I experienced. Then later on the MIlwaukee Public School system made a deal with some church like 2 blocks away that would walk all the students over tehre and they had a big auditorium we'd play in and snacks and there'd be like 1 room where they'd have movies playing and it was free. That was a lot better because the people running it were either teachers from a private school or nuns and they were a lot kinder and more watchful.

I've been in shoot outs where I was less scared than when I had the red bucket over my head and all the kids banging on it with toys and holding me in a chair while I screamed.

I knew a kid who was so poor he didn't have any money to buy a costume on Halloween, so he had to turn his coat inside out and trick or treat, and when people saw he just had his coat turned inside out and had no costume, they'd frown at him and say "Trick", so the poor kid would slump his shoulders and stomp off to try the next house, where he'd get the same treatment. At the end of the night, he'd have like three candies.
