when i was a teenager i read most of jodi picoult's novel with an errect penis.
it was all the vivid, explicit and graphic kinder-erotic elements in her novel i think that caused me to become a minor-attracted-person.
i blame her for what i am. -
2024-05-30 at 12:49 PM UTCBooks are no-shit dangerous as fuck.
People think they are just harmless knowledge and that we should all read indiscriminately.
But books can fuck you up badly.
I'm pretty sure reading Harry Potter makes you retarded, and Lord of the Rings turns you into a sperg.
If you met the sort of people who write books, you would never take anything they have to say seriously.

I agree. My ex gf read Chuck Palahniuk when she was 16 and it messed her up. I read a lot of Christopher Pike in my formative years and feel like it still influences me. Whenever I try to write stories they sound like Christopher Pike ones, so it's like that voice is part of my personality. I've never read Harry Potter and am only reading Tolkien now. I don't think they're that great and dislike how there's few women but I can't appreciate his effort. I wish I'd read more fantasy growing up. Reading the satanic bible at 14 definitely influenced me because it put me off all religion. -

2024-05-30 at 9:24 PM UTCa few books extremely heavily influenced me in life, I'll include more if there's an interest. I used to be a big reader.
1984 made me very afraid of our government and basically into a libertarian at 14/15 believing in things like Big Brother, The Party, stupid slogans, forever war, indoctrination of children to the party, a 1 party state and the destruction of in the individual for the totality of the state
Brave New World to a much lesser extent was like this as well.
Prose Eddas translated by Carolyne Larrington gave me teh foundation for my life religious devotion.
Also The Things that Grew Under the Sink by R.L. Stein had a profound affect on my development. -
2024-05-30 at 9:27 PM UTCNo book had such a profound affect on me as 1984 by George Orwell, now i'm thinking about it in detail. That one book really affected me when I first read it at 14, I used to read it once a year for about a decade, I can tell you literally every point of the story of Winston Smith. I can't think of anotehr book that even had half the effect that one did on me though.

Women aren't supposed to be doing math and science, they're supposed to be the home maker and family nurturer.
