That's part of the problem. I don't really know anything about computers anymore and don't really know what I'm after. I need a new computer to do basic computer stuff on like reading emails and doing paperwork, but would also like to be able to play modern games and not have to upgrade it much for awhile. -

I only remember you talking about minecraft and red dead, what modern games are you interested in playing?
are you happy with just 1080p or do you want 2k/4k?
do you want to build it yourself or are you looking to get it assembled? -
2024-08-06 at 1:13 PM UTC1080p definitely is better for so many reasons - less graphics card intensive, so you can get faster FPS and use a cheaper card, it's much less bandwidth intensive when remoting (4k remoting is hard on the server CPU too), it's easier to standardise on so you don't have to deal with different resolutions, for instance between your laptop and your desktop and between monitors, and the monitors are much cheaper.
It makes sense to just standardise on 1080p unless you genuinely need the marginally sharper picture, like if you are doing 4k video editing or whatever. -

2024-08-06 at 1:34 PM UTCBuys a gaming PC then plays a near 20yr old game..
-
2024-08-06 at 1:35 PM UTCYou have to go back 20 years to get a game worth playing. The vast majority of modern games are utter shit.

I played a zombie VR game once, I got insanely angry I couldn't just punch them when they'd come over to me and start biting at my chest. -

Must have been a shitty one, you can punch etc in RE4 VR.
