   If anything, I think my public correspondence with you today has been markedly less civil than what I've sent in private. I'm guessing this had more to do with the idea that it might shame me in some way, to be seen offering you a way out. It doesn't. And I hope the illusion that it might have shamed me didn't help you to reestablish or reassert a sense of identity, after I inadvertently caused it to crumble.
