Apparently this is an extremely niche cultural dish, local to just my area. I thought it was a German tradition that came with the immigrants that make up my ancestry but apparently this goofy ass shit is Milwaukee based and probably always will be.
Cannibal sandwiches, also known as "tiger meat" or "steak tartare", are a holiday tradition in Wisconsin that consists of raw ground beef, onions, salt, and pepper served on rye bread or crackers. Some people may also add a raw egg on top. The sandwiches are often served at holiday parties and other festive gatherings in the Milwaukee area.
In my family we don't do the raw egg and we use rye toast.
u take a scoop of very lean hamburger, smush it down, like a couple rings of white onion raw, salt and I like to use a lot of pepper. My mom puts a bit of horse radish on hers and my aunt puts worchestire sauce on hers.
Couldn't believe that my friend in Michigan, KINKOU, didn't do this so I did some googling and apparently there's 1 city on earth where this is centrally done. My family has always lived in the greater milwaukee area since we immigrated to this country around 120-150 years ago. I assumed that this was done in Germany but nah just Mil.
