   The Emancipation Proclamation only freed the slaves in confederate states, and Delaware (remaining, as they were, a part of the union) didn't abolish slavery until December 6, 1865; when the 13th amendment was ratified by the federal government (against the wishes of Delaware's government, who refused unequivocally to ratify the 13th amendment when it came before their congress earlier that year). Juneteenth marks the eradication of slavery from the former Confederate States of America, but not from the United States of America as a whole. Ironic that, one way or another, the CSA abolished slavery before even the USA.

   December 6th is a better date for an "emancipation day" holiday, in my opinion. The new secular religion of the United States is, after all, the worship of black people. It makes sense that, rather than Christmas being the "December Holiday" of the modern America, it should be one dedicated to their new gods.
