Even though it's only 1GB, that's literally still fine cuz what are you going to do, browse thousands of songs by-ear on a displayless device? The whole point is to make your little shuffle playlists and sync them so you just turn the device on and listen to your music, directly, just put your headphones in and start playing. It's a perfect concept basically.

i never purchased an apple product in my life but I did get to experience ipods "back in the day" every girl I dated was getting new devices every year and had so many old ones just sitting around and they would give them to me

I think I had a 512MB one, but can't really remember.
Having it hanging around your neck was perfect. Way more sensible than in your pocket or on a clip.
And you could just reach down and change track so easily.
I even used it for podcasts, but they weren't called podcasts back then, they were just talky mp3s.

Apple is fucking gay. I still like mp3 players though because I'm paranoid about phones and can listen to things if I don't want to carry a phone. It seems like they break easily nowdays though.

Hating Apple is an outdated midwit trap
The truth is, they are basically complete geniuses at the capitalism game and I applaud them for winning all the time.
They also unironically make some fucking fantastic products for people who are rich.
The truth is that only poor people see everything from a "value for money" point of view. Many people are not actually looking to get the absolute best dollar value on the most utilitarian product, we are willing to spend a bit more on something that is a bit nicer and cooler.
Apple fucking rules because they makes disgusting poor nerds so mad.
