the only reason Teslas are competitive in any way, shape or form is because governments heavily subsidise the sale of new vehicles, it's why there's virtually no secondary market for them - no subsidy makes their insane costs (both upfront and in terms of maintenance) untenable

This isn't by accident. He sets up all his ventures this way on purpose. Boring company was originally supposed to work with government to bore tunnels in san fransisco or some shit, so he ended up making flamethrowers instead because the deal fell through.

Every global conglomerate does this all the time. Elon is not the first and will not be the last. Other companies that have been public for 50+ years do this constantly but nobody ever has a problem with it. If your company can only exist because of taxpayer money and stupid public money projects being shoved down peoples throats then they shouldn't exist at all.

idk I think it's a bit different in Elon's case. NASA would not be able to go into space without his technology, so of course he gets special treatment. Nobody says the people at Lockheed Martin are "glowies" they just want to make airplanes and $$$
