    It was unqualified/unskilled people who joined the SS, it was the only time they could have authority in their lives so ofc they abused it. I won't say which mundane character I was interested in but she was bullied during childhood, couldn't get a job anywhere else, was young, from a quiet village. Ofc she turned into a fucking monster. Young people are cruel.

    This reminds me of that exploit movie; Ilse, she-wolf of the SS. She was performing experimental on women to prove that they were stronger than men, and it's true, women can tolerate more pain. The SS ended up killing her because her suggestions were that women should be soldiers. Wonder if it was based on fact.

    There were lots of families that grew up involved with leftist political activism and having a jedi neighbor but the kid still wants to join the SS, everyone joined the SS. The idea that "everyone knew" and accepted it is bullshit. Lots of people were quite outspoken about things they didn't agree with morally, like Lutherans (the biggest church in germany), Catholics. But a lot of the soldiers were people that went to these churches, they were just normal people.

    I don't think people were that outspoken when you couldn't trust anyone bcus the Nazi salute made everyone seem like a Nazi and children were brainwashed into turning their parents in.
