I recently ordered a blu-ray cd but I don't have a blu-ray player and I don't have a drive on my computer that I can use, so I have no other choice.

The blu-ray player will cost me around $90 and the discman will cost me around $30, so I'll be spending $130 on it soon.

I already have the money but I'm just waiting for the right time. I can order it today and receive it tomorrow but I'd rather wait until early April, because I watch religiously watch the movie in April and July, mostly. So I just need to wait two more weeks or so.

Just buy a used PS4 for cheap, then you have the Blu-ray player plus any games you might want to play plus the media player and all that. Probably isn't much over your price range now.

PS4 cannot play 4K Blu-rays. To do what you're suggesting the cheapest console with a 4K UHD bluray drive would be the Xbox One S but it still does not support Dolby Vision or Atmos. Even PS5 and Series X don't support DV. I do not think they output Atmos either.

Unfortunately there's no good shortcut to just buying a good modern BluRay player because BluRay is an evolving standard with unhelpful nominal continuity of that one brand name. There have been new BD standards quietly introduced all along the way that even make older BD players borderline useless, like the entire chain of encryption nonsense from the early days of BD.

And if you don't care about HDR or uncompressed audio then there's not much reason to bother with getting yourself a BD player anyway, as opposed to getting streaming device that supports DV/DA output and putting Plex on it.

Then either pirate the HQ rips or rip them yourself if you want to have the collection.

There is still something about having a stack of bluerays all in the wrong box, shoved into the corner the room and you keep meaning to buy a dvd shelf to put them on but you don't..

Just get Plex on your media player and rip the BDs. Then e.g. you have a media box, just make them available to Plex over your network, or put them on a drive and plug it into the media box via USB.

The $35 Roku Express 4K+ streaming stick and $50 Roku Ultra LT are both pretty decent, support all the important codecs and formats have reasonable performance for 4K playback, some lite emulators etc.

You can put Plex on them and get full Atmos and DV output.

so if DVD is a red ray and blu ray is a violet ray then wouldn't that mean green or yellow ray is some future shit?
🐢🌼 ATTENTION: THIS MESSAGE WAS COMPOSED BY A ROBOTIC MIND 🤖🔎
"As for "green or yellow ray," there's no widely known disc format that uses such lasers for data storage as of my last update in January 2022. However, there have been discussions and experiments with other wavelengths for optical storage, including green and yellow lasers, but these haven't gained significant traction in commercial products like DVDs and Blu-rays. So, while it's possible that future advancements in optical storage technology could utilize different wavelengths, there's no specific indication that green or yellow lasers will be used in consumer disc formats anytime soon."
