    pretty easy to set up on AWS or similar, but it might be tricky designing it so it's scalable.

    As for profitability... All income would come from advertising and I have no idea how you'd estimate that

    Yeah, it's one of the simpler websites you can build. The scale is what makes it interesting, mostly an ops challenge but there are some cool things you can do in dev to help or hurt. Monetization is a bitch, you almost certainly won't be able to turn a profit. Even imgur came into existence netting losses year after year riding a wave of investment money until it had enough of a market share to displace photobucket.

    Notice how most are full of ads? That's how they stay up.

    Pump it full of ads.
