Sekiro is the best fromsoft game

It’s so good it’s almost perfect. It completes what bloodborne started in making the actually fun way to play the game optimal and obvious, it basically discards a leveling system to eliminate the eternal issue new players always have with “am I under leveled or do I just suck?”, and despite being thematically a mishmash of bad trip and obscure Japanese folk lore involving feeding a lot of things that aren’t food to a lot of people, it actually is the least cryptic title in the catalogue in terms of mechanics item utility (looking at you ds 1&2 roll mechanics, insight in bb, fucken solaire quest line). People call it the hardest game of the lot but idk, it feels easier than pretty much everything except ER. Sure you can’t level grind to beat bosses, but also you don’t have to level grind to beat bosses.

Anyways it’s p good, you should go play it

fromsoft is mid and so is sekiro it's a mid souls game. I never played any souls game or Sekiro, this is just the sentiment I hear. It's overhyped, maybe the hype is appropriate as it doesn't seem like a bad game to me, but it doesn't seem overtly masterful either.

I mean, being good at your rigid genre of a game or even changing up that genre in new interesting ways is that really much of a bar to overcome especially if you are the one setting the bar in the first place.

I should probably play a souls game someday. Or a metroidvania shuhuehuehuwwwwww what if you mixed both genres fuys

I mean FS is kinda ezmode game dev in that they basically own the genre they publish in, I can’t deny that. And they have a formula they haven’t really changed in over a decade. But that doesn’t make their games bad, kinda the opposite, they have something that works and they’ve been playing with polish and variations for forever.

I've only played ds2 & ds3. Never really tried to parry in either one. Used a shield tank in 2 and did the twin blades in 3 so not sure if I'd survive Sekiro.

There is a formality game on ps2 I recently downloaded and plan on playing on an emulator called something abyss that I believe never came out of Japan but was translated by fans. Seems hella cool if a game.

None of the ds games really got parrying right imo. I mean it’s a fun high skill option but it’s pretty punishing to try and get good at, and basically useless in most the boss fights when you’d really want to use it. You do have a tiny window to partial parry (at least in 1 you do) but it’s basically the same as missing. Sekiro’s system is such that you’ll parry most of what you attempt to, but depending on accuracy you’ll get a better or worse result and the whole system is a lot more interactive than “either you get a phat reposte or eat a hit to the face”.

It doesn’t. It actually has less stuff to attenuate difficulty (eg multiplayer, level grind) so you kinda just gotta get gud (but doing so generally doesn’t require hours pouring over the wiki)

Huh. I swears I'm from a reality where Sekiro had gay baby AIDS (ie Activision forced FromSoft to add Easy/Medium/Hard difficulty settings to the game).
