Remember when MandatorySuicide went crazy and started banning everybody and locking all the threads then finally said he had FBI connections he was going to bring in? All over confessing in #totse that he spread peanut butter on his genitals and let his dog lick it off. Then he got demodded and banned from the site by Jeff himself. Good times...

I've been around since Day 1 of Totse, 1989. I'm actually even way before that, as one of the last surviving phreakers of that era.

Then there was robinhoody, who everyone thought was a girl for years. Ended up he confessed to being a guy when he left. Lanny was the other one everybody thought was a girl for years, until he fucked up and had to confess..

Even at its peak, it was never as big or great as none of you thought. It was gay and a gay internet nerd forum for gay nerds.

This is why I'm confused how anyone under 20 would know about this stuff tbh - totse was small and in the grand scheme of things not that interesting. The origins of the site - the idea that its role was to serve as a platform for weird and bad ideas that shouldn't have a platform - is more interesting than pretty much anything that happened there. It was a weird niche community that barely impacted the public consciousness. Pickwick and jenkem are probably the closest thing we have to a legacy (ie Whang! mentioned us in a video one time). That is the extent of our historical impact.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad there are evidently still weirdoes out there with a passing interest in the Deep Lore, but it
is weird that they seemingly exist.

totse was the early internet's eminence in shadow.
Also: I completely forgot nightops were a thing and now I kinda wanna go skulk around in the dark.
