my psychiatrist told me I'm normal

2017-06-02 at 8:05 PM UTCPsychiatrists are fully capable of being wrong. The majority regularly commit serious errors.

No it fucking isn't. This is a complete misunderstanding of what high functioning autism/Asperger's is. Besides, there's a reason people specialize. Look at the size of the DSM or whatever you use in Canada. Do you expect them to have a proper understanding of the latest modern theories for every disorder, a grasp of the neurological differences, the neuro-pharmacology, of every drug and its interactions with the brain? -

2017-06-02 at 8:15 PM UTCalso yeah autism is something you can tell someone has in 5 minutes. ive met numerous people with aspergers and high functioning autism and it was immediately obvious. they were also successful and somewhat socially adept. i had a girlfriend with aspergers too. people who can pick up on social cues can tell how someone is. maybe you couldn't.

This. Even high-functioning it's immediately obvious. -

Sploo, do you remember what made them successful, what they did for a living?
I'm also curious about what tips it off for both of you. What are the clear signs you see that reveal someone is on the spectrum?
I'll fully admit that for someone with a decent understanding of autism it's probably pretty damn apparent that I'm autistic as hell. Although, I do normally try to mask it in public. -

I probably shouldn't have said "immediately obvious," because they have to get at least slightly comfortable around me first
For me it's the way they talk. they will talk in this monotone, jumpy sort of way and it will typically be emotionless and they will have difficulty staying on point
But then again I haven't met very many people outside of work so maybe this is common/meaningless
You can just tell by the way they talk that something is not quite right
It's hard to explain but I know you know what I mean

2017-06-04 at 6:27 AM UTCI've just felt the urge to say that for an indeterminate length of time. It's a phrase that's crossed my mind since at least earlier today.

How do you know they had been diagnosed as autistic? Did they tell you?
Yeah, the way autistic people talk, even write, definitely tends to be noticeably different. -

I scored 33. I think the cut off is lower than 29 though. IDK. If it makes you feel any better, my life makes a lot more sense now that I realize I'm autistic and/or have BPD too. Brings a lot of closure with all the disparities I've had with so many people in my life. Also, makes a ton more sense why I jive with a lot of fucks from this community, and other autistic fuckers IRL more than I do with normal folk. -
