Walked by it, shitloads of tents but nearly every tree has been cut down. and there were a lot. in 1960s it was a unused parking lot with a chain link around it, so a bunch of starving students (students who couldn't afford rent lived in tents and homeless hippy dropouts got together and told the city to fuck themselves and turned it into a playground for children and planted trees and ripped down the fencing. now its starting to look barren again like in the 1960s.
they plan on putting a large glass box for freshman students (dorms) and a park on top of the building or some weird shit. smh. Berkeley was kind of mostly redwood trees as well as oak and eucalyptus trees with a Normandy like theme (Normandy Village near by) but they tore down the single floor storefronts and eateries and built 6-7 floor student housing everywhere. big glass Ikea looking buildings with store fronts on the bottom floor. the "Walkable city" theme. they even built a 16 floor Residence Hotel (Marriot I think) which towers over most other buildings.
the liberal hippies grew up and became bigger pricks than their GOP money bag parents. so much for "Free in state college of 4 years"
