    i learned of sound wave patterns or "Sound bank patches"
    
    Sawtooth
    Square tooth
    Cycle Wave
    SINE Wave
    and umm like 2 others. havn't had my rolands in over 11 years so :(
    
    SINE wave has a structure that wanes in and out .. wax on wax off. subtle attack and then sustain slightly before cycling back around again
    
    saw tooth is full on Attack and no sustainment and no reverb. Like a Buzzard or alarm sound.
    
    Square tooth is more difficult to describe and Cycle is more of a wa wa peddle like that kind of wobble and not very stable.
    
    you learn to manipulate these diffrent sound frequencies when learning a synch instrument. analog ones are better than digital presets. they're so much more fun to play with but don't sound very realistic. very 60s Moog technology but fun to toy with.
