also if it was so bad as you say why did her on mom tell her to proetitute herself at 12 and find nothing wrong with it as did wociety then? if it was seen as bad or sex at 12 why would her own mom do this to her?

„ Jarrett was the youngest of seven children. Her father deserted the family and she was raised by her alcoholic mother,[1] who prostituted her in London at the age of 12[2] (then the age of consent).[3] Child prostitution was common at the time. Virgins especially commanded a higher price, at least partly due to the lower risk of catching an STI at a time when antibiotics were not yet available.[1]

As an adult she supported herself through prostitution and later became a brothel-keeper, procuring girls and women to work for her. She tried to leave the world of prostitution several times, but was later lured back into the lifestyle while living in London.[4] At age 36,[4] by now an alcoholic and gravely ill, Jarrett was taken in by Florence Booth of the London Salvation Army.[1] Jarrett prayed to "be a good woman and truly break away from the drink".[5]”

„ In June 1885, Bramwell Booth took Jarrett to meet W.T Stead.[5] She helped Stead in obtaining a 13-year-old Eliza Armstrong from her mother, making sure the mother was well aware of their supposed 'purposes', and had her taken to a local midwife before being sent to a London brothel.[9][10]

Posing as a rich businessman, Stead visited the brothel and had the girl drugged before she was brought to him (from where he had the girl taken to a Salvation Army home in France). Following a series of articles published by Stead in the Pall Mall Gazette, entitled The Maiden Tribute of Modern Babylon, which received an immediate public outcry resulting in the beginnings of the Social purity movement as rallies were held across the country and a petition sent to the House of Commons. However, despite public support behind them, both she and Stead were arrested on charges of abduction and indecent assault (possibly arranged by George Cavendish-Bentinck, a politician implicated in the sexual trafficking of boys in the Cleveland Street Scandal.[11]) and Jarrett was imprisoned for six months.[7][12]

After her release from Millbank Prison, she continued with her rescue work with the Salvation Army.[13][14] Initially she returned to Winchester, but later returned to Florence Booth's care at 259 Mare Street, Hackney, where she remained until her death in early 1928.[15]”

lol criminilized homosexual activity was seen as a bigger deal:

„ Rebecca told her new friends in the Social Purity movement about her own experiences with young teenage prostitution. Soon after recovering from her illness, she helped journalist and activist William Thomas Stead to purchase a 13 year old girl named Eliza Armstrong from her mother, under the pretence that the girl would be used for sexual purposes.

Stead wanted to demonstrate how young girls were being bought and sold in Britain. Stead went on to publish a series of articles in the Pall Mall Gazette, called "The Maiden Tribute of Modern Babylon" about how young girls could be bought and trafficked, using his experiences with Eliza as an example.

Stead's series sparked a public outcry against prostitution and the sexual exploitation of young people. His article helped to inspire mass support for the Social Purity movement, with public rallies and petitions to the House of Commons. The public outcry led to the passing of new laws that raised the age of consent from 13 to 16 years, criminalized homosexual male sexual activity, and provided for legal measures against prostiution and sex trafficking.

    W. T. Stead and Rebecca Jarrett, however, were brought up on criminal charges of abduction and indecent assault for their involvement with Eliza Armstrong. In the book "Rebecca Jarrett", Josephine Butler describes the trial of Stead and her friend Rebecca.”

„ Jarrett first encountered the Salvation Army in January 1885. Her situation was not unlike what Victorian social commentators predicted for a fallen woman. Ill from the effects of drink, poor, at thirty-five she was well past the age when most rescue organizations would accept her. She attended a Salvation Army meeting and in her desperate situation she agreed to enter an Army rescue home. It was a painful transition. She longed for her old life. Her mother continued to run the brothel they had once managed together and she contemplated returning to it. Florence Bramwell Booth, director of the rescue work, recorded in her diary that when she warned Jarrett that 'she would go to hell with her mother's soul and the souls of all the poor girls she would get into the brothel', she responded by vowing, 'I will give it up, and fell down on her knees sobbing. She prayed to God to save her'.2 She was sent to Winchester to live and work with social-purity feminist Josephine Butler at her rescue home. In this quiet setting it was hoped she would continue on the path the Salvation Army had set for her.

Not long after, Jarrett was taken by William Booth, General of the Salvation Army, and Florence Bramwell Booth to meet W. T. Stead, editor of the Pall Mall Gazette. Stead was convinced many young girls were sold into the white-slave trade each year and he was determined to expose this scandal. He would stage an abduction and then publish the story to garner public support for new laws to protect girls and women.3 Stead had approached the Salvation Army for help. The Salvation Army was...”

feom another source. s maybe it was a choice fuys:

„ Rebecca Jarrett was born in London in 1864. At the age of 12, after the death of her father and the onset of her mother's alcoholism, she began working as a prostitute in Chelsea's Cremorne Gardens. She later ran a number of brothels across the country until she was found, during a period of sustained ill health in Northampton, by The Salvation Army in 1884. After a time with The Salvation Army at 212 Hanbury Street, Whitechapel she was sent to Josephine Butler's House of Rest in Winchester. Butler (Secretary of 'Ladies National Association for the Abolition of the State Regulation of Vice and for the Promotion of Social Purity') helped Jarrett establish Hope House, a rescue home in Winchester.

Rebecca Jarrett came, through her connections with The Salvation Army, to play a pivotal role in the expose of child prostitution by the journalist W T Stead. She used contacts from her time as a prostitute to stage the abduction of 13 year old Eliza Armstrong. The Armstrong case was published in Stead's Pall Mall Gazette under the title 'The Maiden Tribute of Modern Babylon' and the ensuing public outrage led to the passing of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, which raised the female age of consent to sixteen. However, it also led to a court case against Stead, Jarrett and Bramwell Booth. Jarrett (along with Louisa Mourez, a midwife involved in Armstrong's 'abduction') received the longest sentence of all the defendants and spent six months in Millbank Prison. After her release in April 1886 she was cared for by The Salvation Army until her death in 1928.”
