From my understanding they have a very developed economy hence the fucking WAR it's not to just take barren land even though it's all bombed to heck and such there are still natural resources, rare earth metals and Ukraine has always been the manufacturing tech hub and bread basket for the soviet union so it makes sense why they would take it back

it doesn't require trillions to join. The only shitfucked part is the breakaway region and those regions have wanted to join the Russian economy instead of the EU for a long time HENCE THE WAR hence all the strife etc it has nothing to do with their GDP at all
