Also, if anyone's curious why he's dressed like that, I was gonna romance (roll the r in your head as you read that) him but then he started going on about his dead husband so I dressed him in the gayest clothes I could find, and handed him some chicken and a watermelon for good measure, because that pretty much insta-killed my interest in him. He was the fun Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly space rogue-ish type of guy, and I wish he coulda just stayed that way. He didn't need harrowing relationship baggage like being a... widow? (Widower? Huh.) Mal probably had a bit of war trauma and he wasn't all fun all the time, but it's not like he was constantly talking about he how much missed his dead gay lover with Inara either. -

I mean... hmm. Am I gonna hafta rewatch Firefly? Fack. Mal's whole allure, to my mind, is that he was clearly damaged but kept that shit ~locked up - he's a hot space badass who is broken and needs to be fixed, but his hot space whore gf can't fix him because he's too preoccupied with calling her a whore. If he's going to get all weepy with anyone it's going to be Inara, sure, but it's not like Inara would say something flirty with him and he'd be like "man, that reminds me of the trenches in Serenity Valley, where my hot gay space cowboy lover Erwin died a tragic death". -

I'm about 10 hours in and feel like I've barely cracked the surface. Enjoying it, taking it slow. -
