I'm homeless now

  1. #1
This is the 2nd time. And I'm unemployed. Fuck. Well, I still can doordash, but in a 2008 jeep the gas expenses are through the roof.
Living in Northern IL, winter is going to be a bitch. I have to start getting ready, I don't even have enough money left to buy any blankets. Time to go back to robbing.
Any tips or tricks on making it out here?

By the 3rd day in one of those I have a feeling either I would be dead or I would have killed someone there. I drove out to a pretty safe neighborhood, so I should be ok sleeping in my car in parking lots.

Why did you get kicked out?

Try to get yourself to the closest city if you're not already in one, there's more resources. Don't be too proud to fly a sign if you can (don't know the laws there, some places cops run you off, others they arrest you) but I've had people give me all kinds of stuff holding a sign.....money is obvious but I've gotten clothes, a tent a couple times, food....so it's not a bad idea.

If you have a drug habit try to get yourself what you need first (blankets, food, all that) and get yourself situated before you go getting too high to care.

I wish you the best man I've definitely been there a few times I know it's definitely stressful but try not to let it beat you down too much.

Thanks man, I've got to go back to Rockford IL, hopefully I can get help there, at least handouts from kind strangers. At least I can doordash, so i'll make enough money to have a phone for now. When I get a job I'll be able to get an apartment in Rockford.

As a last resort, there's this chick i've been talking to down in Virginia, I might be able to crash at her place for an undetermined amount of time, but it's a long ass drive. Only worth the gas money if it's a long term stay, I gotta get my ass in.

    Go say sorry.
    Go to rehab.
    Don't die.

I don't plan on dying anytime soon. :)

never park at the same place twice. at least a block away if not 3. neighborhood watch will rat you out. parking lots are a target for smash and grabs. would suck to wake up to someone who freaks out and shoots you

find a nice tall hedge, build a tarp tent into it and sleep in that. sleep from 8-4am in the winter. it's just too fucking cold. 7-3 if possible. and then get up, hit the gym and shower there. of course get a gym membership with showers. single showers as opposed to an open one

    Gay indeed.

Do you qualify for unemployment…food stamps? At least it’s something.
Can you get some zero skills job like McDonald’s or Walmart? Find someone lookin for a roommate… at least get you through the winter?

Worst case scenario go back to rehab for winter…it’s food & shelter and maybe a job or sober living when you’re done. There’s a lot of resources out there, you just gotta be willing to dig and deal with shit for a bit.

    Good luck bro

I would qualify if I had a residence, i'm pretty sure. If I don't need a residence to qualify I'm hopping right on board.

As far as employment is concerned, i've applied to 16 places. I didn't get hired by any. I'm not kidding. I'm going to apply to this tacobell i'm at rn.

    I added more ideas…hopefully you’ll get something.

I slept in the back of my van I leased. a new Honda 3 row with collapsable seats. wish I had a air matress but I needed to lift the seats and do uber black (paid more)

you would think the bay area doesn't get that cold but parked in a concrete parking lot in Walnut Creek in the winter gets in the upper 20s and there was frost on my windows with my breath causing condensation and I got pneumonia like three times in 2 different years being homeless and living in my car during those winters.

the summers were bad too. I woke up and couldn't breath it was so fucking hot. nearly passed out getting into the the cab of my then pickup to turn on the AC. I was drenched.

the rest of the year it's really comfortable. but I learned in the summer park on the roof level and in the winter, find a thick wooded area. spring and fall was super comfortable parked there. also for 40 years parking was free . the year I became homeless with in 3 months of free parking they started charging to park. but 3 bucks overnight wasn't bad. I just had to ask to use the bathroom and drop money in the meter for the day (you put your parking stall number) and then split.

Good luck , least you got a comfy car to sleep in instead of a cardboard box or a tent I suppose.

Just shoplift everything you need and use your white priveligw card and you should be fine.
