He sure did a terrible job of communicating the epistemic humility to be expected of a man of science though. He may not have come out and claimed to be omniscient, but neither he, nor government generally, nor media were keen on reducing the power and authority of the Expert class. Death to Eggheads. -

I mean I’m uncle ted’s biggest fan and all but this doesn’t seem like a great argument for anarchoprimativism. Like sure academia has a hierarchy to it, but it’s not respected once you take two steps of campus. Researchers are pretty close to the bottom of our social totem pole.
The whole “trust the science” meme is 100% a political construction. No one does or actually expects or wants anyone else to trust scientists as a class, it’s just politically expedient pretext to exercise power that has nothing to do with scientific research. -

Scientists seemed to revel in it. "Racism is a public health crisis, say public health experts." - it was a politically expedient pretext for that class to exert power they can't be trusted with.
This is kind of like saying "nobody actually expects or wants anyone else to trust capitalists as a class". It's totally true! (So long as you ignore capitalists as a class. They'd very much like it if you just shut up and listen to the Experts at the Cato Institute. "Dude trust me, our owning the means of production is actually way good for society." smh)
