So I've been thinking about a couple of site features that I don't really think live in the core forum code, don't apply to forums in general (like polls for example) but which might be nice to have. So I tried slapping together an extension system and I thought a forum game would be a good exercise. So the game is called Taboo, we ran a similar game back on zoklet briefly, basically you're trying to get someone else to say some word (they don't know which word) and if you do it they get banned for a day. Other people are trying to do the same to you. It's opt-in so if you think this sounds stupid just don't sign up. It's also highly experimental, so beware bugs and if things fuck up let me know.
So anyway, if you want to play you can sign up here:

Is it an instant ban? Do you lose if you just randomly use the word in a thread title you make, completely unprovoked?

does it work if you quote someone who has the word in their post?

That would have been a good strategy...
Damn you MQ for not being cleverer. Missed a good opportunity.

Also, Lanny, is there anything in place to avoid common words? Finding a list of the most common XXXX words and using that as a simple input seems like it should be fairly simple. A minimum amount of characters wouldn't work, of course. Not into compsci, but it seems the framework should already be in the forum software, making integration simpler; don't know how easy writing everything from scratch would be.
If you take care of that then this sounds like it could be a really fun game to play.

It just picks one out of a set of two hundred some pre-selected words that are fairly common nouns but not common structural words. So like "leg" and "coffee" are in there but "and" or "the" are not. There are resources I could use if that ends up not being enough, plenty of wordlists and some good corpora are available on word frequency so that would be the approach I'd take if I wanted to get more data science-y on it. The issue is the NLP corpora usually come with wonky terms because they were produced with public funding contingent on cite-counts so distribution becomes a real headache.
