4real though, medieval European kids were basically free-but-less-skilled labor and generally considered to be mini-adults. The general western perspective on children has changed heavily with... IDK, industrialization? Fuck em I say, send em back to the mines. Builds character.

It's a good question. I didn't learn about sex until I was 11 or so. I never really cared where babies came from. I definitely was sheltered by the society I grew up in.

Nowadays kids are exposed to sex all the time from the internet, movies and TV. They have access to hardcore scat on their phones. I don't know for sure cos I don't go talking to kids about sex or porn, but I doubt kids have much in the way of innocence any more.

To go beyond OP's unwoke implicit Eurocentrism, I don't think African or pre-industrial kids ever had much in the way of innocence either. I think it's just a European and possibly Asian thing. But it's a good question.
