I got scammed on Amazon. Explain

2023-08-16 at 4:59 PM UTCIt said 8 Optical zoom on a 4k camera I got. The camera was a refurb and 60 bucks. so I said, shit.. whats 60 bucks. but its not 8x Optical. it's pure Digital zoom. no gears/motors/servo actuator whatever. just crop zoom. how lame. you can do this in post-editing.
what should I do? -

Ask for a return/refund..doesn't Amazon cover that -
2023-08-16 at 5:18 PM UTCAmazon returns are easy. Mark it off as item not as described in listing or whatever when they give you the option. They sent me a brand new air enhancement machine with dirt on it once and they refunded me the money plus let me keep the item when I posted a negative review with pictures.

Yeah but I bought it like a month ago, let it sat while playing with certain menu features and then came to realize "WTF no Optical Zoom.. they lied"
Seems a big jump in price too. 8x or 10x are hovering 4-900 bucks. but when you get to anything over 32-40 optical zoom on a 4k its in the thousands
also it seems to crop out 4k in certain ratio. so maybe there is a different process going on that cost more to maintain 4k in field of view when zoomed in? its like those cheap monochulars for cell phones. you will get 20x zoom but it cuts out half of the screen with a blackout circle. so you digitally zoom in you lose half of your 4k right there. I mean you can get maybe 1080p with 8x zoom in but you lose the 4k ability? there is no way around having a larger optical lens to cover it fully? and most 4k phone camera use more than one lens. thats why you have all of those lens. its splitting 1080 I guess. or something weird is going on there -

because cameras naturally push back field of view like 3x what the eye sees. or 0.3 so you have to adjust 1.3 which crops out the 4k ability and shifts it into 1080px2 or 2.1k vs native 4k.
also I might want to video tape the Golden Gate Bridge 10 miles from us to the west and San Francisco where not a cloud in the sky right now. we only get on average 20 days of this perfect sky.
also I might want to spy on a motha fucka outside like during the freeway shootings between oakland and richmond I saw a suspect just hanging out next to the fense and south wall of the highway. kept looking around all suspect. but he was a black guy so posting it would make me look instant RACIST to the ACL or some gay shit.

I understand how cameras work. You don't need 8x zoom for landscape. You would need it for spying though so that answered my question, lol.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

well it depends on the change-out lens added on. if you had change out ability (like multi tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars of hardware) then yeah, you can get around that.
but that's usually celluloid vs digital cameras unless again the different change out optics (very expensive) come into play.
real film had pixels in the form of gold and silver micronic size metal flakes. Digital is just a virtual form of this. it doesn't work the same way as real film. so the optical zoom really doesn't give you perfect 4k ability but it is still way better than digital zooming which just crops it automatically at a set ratio that matches full screen -

Still no in regards to landscape. For shooting something like the moon or wildlife or spying then yes you would need zoom and an additional lens for most cameras. And you don’t need hundreds of thousands of dollars. I just got a new 75-300 mm lens for $240. -

let me guess. you own a Canon rebel T5 series?
the lens are super cheap all of a sudden. Im finding them for less than 170 bucks right now. Canon brand too -

I used to have a nice fujifilm bridge camera that had about that resolution, and about 40x zoom. It was great, you could zoom right in on things like birds and ships out on the ocean. I used it all a holiday to Greece then forgot it in a rental car cos I hid it under the seat. Needless to say it was never returned. I was pissed off about not having any pictures from most of the places I went to Greece more than anything.
