Basically "girls mature faster than boys", but Science!™ Now, I'm not gonna try to justify no nonce shit with this knowledge, but uhhh... wouldn't this imply that non-age gap relationships are deeply fucked up on the part of women? Like a 17 year old girl is infinitely more mature than a 17 year old boy, their brains have been relatively mature for around 5 years at that point whereas a given male brain only has like a 40% chance of being mature in the same way (and in any event, males certainly do not have 5 years of experience with their brains having reached this stage of development).
I dunno guys, I'm thinking Japan had the right idea with marriage being legal for girls at 16 and boys at 18. Boys are retarded and need the extra time. It's 18 for both now, and this seems likely to result in relationships with fucked up power dynamics, no?

Actually, wait, why the fuck do we as a society infantilize females whilst simultaneously lauding them for being more mature at a younger age, especially when there's a scientific basis for that laudable facet of womanhood? Like... ugh. I'm trying not to justify noncery here - I really am. Like... "a 21 year old man fucking a 13 year old girl" is either the most fucked up thing in the world or it's literally the first age at which both males and females are more-or-less "guaranteed" (barring edge cases of retardation) to be equally equipped to tackle consent, neurologically speaking.
Is wariat fucking a teenage girl wrong because a 15 year old can't consent, or is it wrong because wariat is one of those edge cases, and even in his 30s he's too retarded to consent?
