I always thought he was a little corny as Walt. Not to say his acting wasn’t excellent in BB bc there were definitely scenes that proved that, eg the phone call to Skyler post baby-napping, but the tough guy persona was cheesy.

Maybe it was supposed to be cheesy? After all, that persona was a fraud, he was lying to himself just as much if not more than he was lying to others.

De Niro is the epitome of this. I dunno, maybe he grew up hard in the 1950s or whenever, but he's an old man now and he's been soft af for way longer than he experienced hardship. The most intimidating thing about him when he's off stage is the fact that he probably knows a couple mob guys since they like his movies so much. Wild how different he is from the characters he portrays.

I think being an actor is like being a writer or a musician. It's a very self-indulgent professsion that draws in really wank people who never had to work hard or really struggle. Sheltered mommy's boys who wanted to look cool and inflict their "creativity" on the rest of the world. Actors are always really annoying and insufferable, weak personalities that never had to grow.
