I watched a kid I hated die of hypothermia in the water when I was younger. I remember thinking "I could help him or I could just say I was scared and didn't wanna drown too."
Took a minute or so but it felt like a lot longer when he was yelling my name

We were walking the 3 of us in the middle of winter on a pier in lake michigan. The pier had a lighthouse on the end and was about a quarter mile out. It is closed from November to February because it ices up bad. We didn't care as it was exam week so we had half days of school and wanted to go smoke weeeeeeeeeeeed.
So as we're walking back (We got halfway to the lighthouse before it was just an ice sheen) however it's a couple big ass rocks on both sides and open water.
I hated the fat fucker we were with and when he slipped he bounced into a rock and fell into the water away from the 3-4 feet of rocks next to the concrete dock.
Bro what was I finna do? We didn't even have cell phones back then, so we watched i wasn't gonna jump down into wet rocks and join him and it's ilke 10 feet up. So I watched and said nothing, my friend didn't sasy anything either, when the guy died we walked (way slower and carefully now that we just saw that holding onto the guide line steel cabel like amotherfucker) we told the first people everything that happened and warmed up at the gas station next to it.
THey got there like 5 minutes later when they heard it was a kid in the water, but after 15 minutes in December in Lake Michigan wearing two hoodies and sneakers, you're kinda dead.

I think I was like 13 in Freshman year. A couple people told the principle of our school that I did it on purpose to him cuz we didn't like each other, but I explained we hang out at the same park everyday, yeah one day we don't like each other, the next day we do, go ask greg and they did, and greg said ya me and that kid hated each other, but i was infront of greg and the fat kid was behind both of us, they asked why we were out there anyway, and we said weed and they said ok.

Me not liking him has nothing to do with his death, or my lack of response, I'm just petty and remember that was a part of the whole thing when I first reflected on it. It could've been any of the three of us slipping into the water to our icy grave but it wasn't me and it wasn't anyone i cared about but none of us could've helped any of us or would've.
I'm happy it wasn't me.

Seems with two of you there and him only being 3ft from the shore it would be simple to drag him out. those Jetties usually have life rings on them too, throw it to him, drag him out.

When you're in fairly shallow water the long weeds wrap themselves around your ankles and pull you down to the bottom with the current acting on them. They wave back and forth under there, and they're quite tough to break off you, once they latch on.
