The 2017 Thinkpad meme?

I remember back then, maybe earlier there seemed to be a push for people to get thinkpads with the core 2 duo? processor or whatever. Ig with paranoid meth users and/or Linux pedos. Then you had people trying to flash a different bios to it to use teh darkwebz and all. It became a meme, like I've seen the Thinkpad logo in memes but idk what all is behind it.

Anyway, I had a Thinkpad. I liked the design more than modern laptops with the screen glued together and a soldered in SSD. But I was always suspicious of the whole thing. People talk about Intel and all this but I thought China used Lenovos with Intel processors. If Intel is good enough for Russia and China to use in space or launch nukes at Washington or whatever it seems like I can trust it too.

But yeah, I always wondered if something hinky was going on with thinkpads, specifically the core 2 duo ones that were supposedly better.

I dunno about 2017, thought it was earlier, but the meme was they were extremely well-built and rugged

after design got taken over by the Chinese they started introducing the low-budget Ideapads which were pretty poorly built, and aimed more for being as thin and light as possible instead of durable, QC dropped and general quality got spotty

So it started on 4chan which...it seems like everything with the FBI involved does. So this gives credence to my theory.

2017 was when I started seeing them promoted by drug addicts who liked ordering their drugs on the internet with tails.

When would you say it started? 2015? 2016?

i love shitty laptops they are my bread and butter.

I've been thinking about getting a $100 mini computer but it's almost so cut down that I wuoldn''t be able to do much with it. Sounds better than tryting to run something off a raspberry pi like a half ass dyniamic site, or a shitty game.

It would be cool to have a phablet sized thing that you could actually run Linux on and everything work with external WiFi cards. I've seen all these shitty Linux phones that nothing works.

I remember they used to have Windows tablets but I doubt: 1. getting them to run Linux would work and 2. Most of the programs you could run on Windows that you would want would work either.

i've been stuck in my ways of oldje tech for a while, I was still using windows xp kinda just as a meme a few years ago. I thought it would run faster on that hardware and it was kinda fun to fuck with

theres stuff I can't run on modern windows OS like old MSDOS games with cooked interfaces
apparently lego island is just a mess on anything , until that dude reverse engineered the source code and built the game with non retard code
or maybe it was just the patch , i can't remember

Yeah the modern market for computers isn't too appealing. It feels more like an investment than what you need nowadays like if I get a top of the line computer, I'm going to be running fucking EVERYTHING on that shit and overheating it, pushing it to the max, I would like to mine PoW crypto but I really don't wanna fry my computers , I can't get it to work on smartphones, maybe linux would be easier.

i need muh windows packages fucking libraries kernals reeeee. Maybe I can get a mini PC as a linux box to fuck wit linux without it being a pain, or maybe a Pi would be better for that idk

I'm on a 2017 Thinkpad (T470s) right now. It's an ex corporate one that I bought second hand a few years ago, I upgraded the RAM, put in an SSD and installed Linux.

It's great, fast enough for just about everything. Battery is at about 75% and lasts 4 hours. The speakers are shit. I carry a bluetooth speaker around in my pack. The screen is dim when in sunlight. And one of the rubber feet perished and fell off and won't go back on. Other than than that it's a good machine, and is cheap enough that I don't have to worry about it like I would a new machine. It's all locked down as well, so if it is stolen they can't get muh data.

I particularly like the touchpad, I can't cope without the thinkpad touchpad with the three buttons.
