Armchair Analytics Ep #1: Failure Anal-lysis of Titan Submersible.

  1. #1
after spending almost an hour anal-lyzing the design and construction of the titan sub, I have came to the conclusion that it failed due to compression force that acted on it from end-to-end, ie, due to compression failure imposed on the carbon fibre body by both end caps pushing towards each other, thus crushing it like a beer can ....

due to the way the carbon fibre were wound around the cylindrical middle composit body, it is the weakest again forces coming from both end as the carbon tapistry would slide under or over each other along the axis they're winded.

imagine being like 5 cock-roaches inside a beer that a frat guy crushed with his forehead.

    imagine star trek.

I remember reading that they bought a defective carbon fibre tube from Boeing; a part that failed pressure testing for use in a commercial aircraft, but Boeing denied it

idk, i saw videos of them winding carbon fibers into a tube over a metal spool.

because metal cage keeps water from going in ?

well it helps the pressure pushing DOWN ON ME OOOOO PRESSURE literally the queen songs explains all of it

There's a transcript going around from the sub, but it's dodgy as hell and I don't believe it is genuine.

Basically it's all about how they were descending too fast, then weren't able to ascent when the alarms went off, and struggled for a long time with their electrics as the hull loudly cracked around them.

I doubt that's real, it originally showed up on a random Indian channel and it reads like a tech support call

if the transcript was leaked you'd expect it to be posted first as text, not Indians reading it out in terrible English

when I saw it originally it had no sources, now it has a unilad link that goes nowhere and a link to the abc news homepage

if true, which i believe to be very likely, could bring in an entirely new hypo on why it imploded.

descent rate increased most likely due to leakage. this means the sub was taking in water and losing its buoyancy. salt water leaking in meets batteries, either caused damage to the batteries, or worse, sorting them out which means electrolysis also happened, and building up of hydrogen gasses.

and with already compromized structure it didnt take much pressurized gasse to cause it to exploded and then implode.
