Huy Fong Foods, the maker of the popular Sriracha hot sauce, is still experiencing a shortage of chile peppers due to drought conditions in Mexico. The company used to source all of its peppers from a single supplier in Ventura County, California, but switched to multiple suppliers in Mexico after a bitter contract dispute. A recent study has shown that even crops that require less water, such as chile peppers, are still being impacted by drought and competition from water-hungry crops upstream. This shortage has led to rising prices for the sauce, with some desperate fans resorting to swiping bottles from stores and restaurants. The shortage is a reminder of the susceptibility of supply chains to weather-related shocks, and experts warn that future food supply shortages are all but assured with the current amount of water used in the United States.

Meanwhile, in reality:
‘Off the charts’: Earth’s vital signs are going haywireMeteorologists and climate scientists all around the world are in awe by the simultaneous literal “off the charts” records being broken. From ocean temperatures, to sea ice, to land ice to emissions from wildfire smoke, the charts below speak for themselves.
Yes, it’s climate change. -

2023-07-01 at 12:22 AM UTCSuper-rich warned of ‘pitchforks and torches’ unless they tackle inequality
Today's Guardian reports on a London investor meeting in which arguments for philanthropy took a dark turn from the usual status and self-congratulation. The global ultra-wealthy in attendance were warned that "poverty and the climate emergency were going to get 'so much worse,'" and philanthropy was positioned as a means to mitigate rising chaos. Re-branding philanthropic acts to the general public was discussed as a tool to shape perceptions and manage anger and blame.

2023-07-01 at 4:22 AM UTCClimate nears point of no return as land, sea temperatures break records, experts say
"We've run out of time because change takes time," said Sarah Perkins-Kirkpatrick, a climatologist at Australia's University of New South Wales.
Nations are criticized for not setting more ambitious goals despite global temperate records, specifically at meetings such as the climate talks in Bonn which just took place. COP28 in November, and talks between the US and China next week, are not likely to produce anything significant in the way of major changes.
"We are really getting to the moment of truth … I am hoping that the sheer reality will help us change people's moves and change the politics." -

I don't know much about the insurance industry
Originally posted by Obbe The insurance industry only operates in countries where they can make a profit with annual policies that limit exposure.
But I do know that the market wants models, alternative models and systems for everything, and the race is on for every dick and Harry inc to build fucking everything including a solar farm on the roof and sell micro greens, and companies doing GREEN initiative's for tax breaks WERE PAPERLESS NOW!!
