A society in which individuals do not care about the well-being of others can experience a breakdown of social cohesion, just like your marriages did. Trust and cooperation are essential for the functioning of communities, and a lack of care for others can erode these foundations, leading to divisions, conflicts, and a sense of isolation, which by the sounds of it are consequences you are already intimately aware of. -
