You need to parse his whole attitude about "white 50 year old guys" (stockton was 61) and try to figure out what was going on in his addled head, before it got turned to mush. Basically he pretended to care about women and young people and minorities, but that was just his way of justifying surrounding himself with people he felt better than and could bully. He viewed older white males as potential rivals.
It's not about experience in an expertise sense, it's that he didn't want men who were self-confident, assertive and able to hold their own in an argument around.
