Well, I shouldn't have to spend much so hopefully a couple grand should be able to stretch me all summer easy, and I should be getting financial aid when I get back. Food and stuff is cheap over there. I suppose if I REALLY got myself in a shitty situation I could always get a friend or possibly my parents to bail me out. I mean I don't think they're gonna let me die or anything. But I'm pretty sure I could find a way anyways. Taiwan is like the safest country in the world so I mean if you have to, sleeping outside would not be terrible, and you can eat for $5 a day if you want to. And even if all that happened, it would be an experience for sure

I know you said some of the things you'd be doing, and is that mostly it? Like you spend most of your time just reading and eating? Do you get fucked up often? What's crime like? Does most natives there speak English? Where do you get your books to read? Don't you ever get bored?

Yea pretty much. I mean I might get kinda bored but the point is to practice entertaining and improving myself without relying on drugs and just all the usual shit I do. And I will explore a lot. It's pretty interesting just walking around a country. Asia (and especially Taiwan) have a much more lively atmosphere because it's more of a collective society, and populations are so dense that it's very easy to go on short walks to the night market and just hang out, as opposed to where in America people either have a social group you have to go out of your way to keep relationships up or they just sit inside being depressed. So the fact that if you are bored you can pretty much just start walking and you will come up on something interesting to see or do.
I speak a very small amount of Chinese but a lot of people speak English too. A lot of people would come up to me and want to just practice their English. Some of them can be weird but it's usually interesting regardless. I'll probably take some acid but other than that I won't really fuck with drugs or alcohol there. The alcohol culture is not nearly as big as it is in America and you can go out at night there sober without being regarded as some sort of weirdo, and the penalties for weed are high and I'm pretty sure it would be garbage anyways.
Taiwan is basically the safest place in the entire world crime-wise. And I'll probably get bored yea but I'm bored most the time anyways.

Also it's really easy to just get a $10 train ticket to another city. In America you can't just go from SF to Chicago real quick because of the huge geographic separation.

Just go to the beach, chill with locals, meet local women get high on local chinese meth and drink beer, party, rent a little motor bike scooter thing and drive around fucked up, get into fights with the Triads and have russian mercenaries ask around town for you but because you are such a crazy white devil and spread the cash around generously the local police tell you all about them and those types of people over some beer and a generous bit of cash for their valuable info.

Hey OP, why are you going to Taiwan and not the real China? I've not been to Taiwan but I've heard its super westernized. Like if you're gonna go to Asia, go to Asia. That's just my two cents.

China is only good if you are gonna go check out all the attractions and really dive into the culture, it's a long drawn out experience which is exactly what China is all about, it's like touring the USA most people don't do the ENTIRE country in one go and say "Yup I've been to USA", people usually pick a few states they like and go from there before any hardcore treks go down. China is a lot easier because its kind of a shit hole so there is no need to check out every province unless your some kind of CHina centrist buddhism freak.
If you are looking to party really the only place is Hong Kong where you will get laid by incredibly hot women easily. Taiwan is pretty much equal in this regard and the Chinese know this and it REALLY PISSES THEM OFF. They do not like Capitalism because its subversive and causes a massive drain of people fleeing to the West. China is very jealous of Taiwan for their highly advanced capitalist technological democratic progressive society, just like Japan.
I heard Vietnam is chill too.
