Diablo 4 Titles and Anti-Irish Traveler Slurs?

    This is, frankly, not okay.

I am now known as "Meikai, The Tinker". This is a slur and the Irish Traveler community should be up in arms about this! To be fair, "tinker" was unlocked with the word "clever" - "Clever Tinker". But that's like having the title "Smart Gyppo" unlock when you add a socket to jеwеlry. Blizzard never learns. Always courting controversy, those ones.

    lmao

You really needa understand two things:
    A) The pain and suffering the Irish Traveler community has endured for centuries.
    B) How little of a shit I actually give about this, beyond my ability to make this thread. I'm not an Irish Traveler or descendant of one (afaik), and while my adoptive family's got some Irish roots they're all Northern Irish seoinín types.

Kinda wish it was "Tinkerer" rather than "Tinker" though, not because muh evil slurs but because that actually is a cool word that people use. "Tinker" is a verb. As a noun it's just "archaic Brit slang for an obnoxious child" or some shit (and the slur).

A tranny and an Irish AND a tinker that's a triple minority there and the blacks are just a racial minority okay 👍 where's my damn check (i am not Irish but God bless white people)

Tinker refers to tinsmithing. Apparently back in the day if you had a pot of kettle with a hole in it you'd get a tinker to fix it, and they'd hammer at it all day with a little hammer to fix the hole. It'd take them several hours to fix holes, just hammering away. They would generally travel around looking for work, so were itinerants.

Getting holes worn in pots and kettles used to be a big thing, tin and copper are expensive and soft metal, don't think modern people even realise with their aluminum and galvanised steel.

Gingers should be regarded as a racial and ethnic minority too. A lot more valid and a lot more of a vulnerable minority than the nogs.

I beent saying this. Or... some variation of it, and probably minus the nogs part. That we're [more] vulnerable is maybe technically true in the West just based on population, but how vulnerable are we really? There're probably quite a few non-gingers carrying those lovely recessive ginger genes out there - our raw numbers give a poor estimate of our staying power as an identifiable group. That said, it's certainly true that we're more vulnerable globally, but that's also true of white people in general.

At the end of the day, we are still "white" in a few key ways. Genetically whites are the biggest/arguably sole reservoir of the relevant genes. Socially, it's true that we don't get the full huwhite treatment from our fellow huwhites 100% of the time, but the difference mostly amounts to childhood bullying (and for the girls in particular - but not exclusively - a good deal of objectification for being exotic hot). It's complicated. We are definitely not the same as whites, but we're also definitely not the same as other racial/ethnic minorities.

We're kinda perpetually in the same place Italians were, in America, in the early-to-mid 20th century; the key difference is that's always been the case. In a lot of ways it parallels modern Western religious discrimination better than it does racial discrimination, but of course there's no possibility of conversion or loss of faith. I'm pretty sure we're just inescapably "other" - there's probably no realistic change to how we're regarded which could feasibly change it.

    PS: 👏 nogs 👏 are 👏 valid 👏.

well, it's about as offensive as calling a black person a cotton picker or a spear chucker or something which very well could be descriptions of a person

If it said "tinkerer" that'd be one thing. That is the noun for a person who, one assumes, does indeed tinker(v); tinker(n) rather than tinkerer(n) is a few things, but a synonym for tinkerer it is not.

Either way, kind of moot: it's a global release. Kind of like how an Aussie AAA game can't release with a title like "Best Cunt" and not be courting controversy. The fact that Aussies call their chums cunts all the time isn't going to matter in, say, Canada.😤

Also, don't cite the Deep Magic (aka dictionaries) to me, Bitch. Pulling a 60 year old definition out of the online Oxford dictionary like it means something? smh. That shit was probably last looked at by an editor in 1990, when they added "especially in former times". Nobody has said that shit in conversational English during this Millennium.
