I just remember from AP Modern Euro the reason Poland was fucked over so much in the 1300-1800 is because their constitution said that if any single member vetos a motion, the motion will not pass. So their diet was at the mercy of being loggerhead if any single member was influenced by an outside actor into vetoing it (Typically german or russian aristocrats)
and yes Japan uses the same term for their senate.

Japan doesn’t call their senate the Diet, that’s what westerners call it. They call it Kokkai
