World to hit temperature tipping point 10 years faster than forecast

By subsidizing the fossil fuel industry, Trudeau is fuelling a national emergency

An interesting perspective on what's happened in the past year in Canada and their complete ignoring of the climate. They've recently given another $20 billion to fund the trans mountain pipeline which will allow Albertan oil to be exported to China, India and Asia indefinitely. Canada has the highest or second highest cumulative carbon emissions per capita in the world, in large part because of their massive oil industry in Alberta. Canada has the forth largest proven oil reserves in the world ahead of Iraq.

I don’t have a problem with the world continuing to use and fund the fossil fuel industry, as long as we’re also funding nuclear and geothermal alternatives, maybe mix in solar/wind as appropriate, whatever. But right now we’re pretty much only doing one and not the other, which is retarded
  4. Also Canada will fare far better than most other places once global warming really starts to spin up so it makes sense they wouldn’t really give a shit.

Global warming set to break key 1.5C limit for first time

It's now believed that between now and the year 2027 that there's a 66% chance the world will pass the 1.5C warming mark. It's said to be due to a combination of the general warming trend, as well as the El Nino event which is likely to happen this year.

There had been mainstream predictions by climate scientists that we might reach this point by 2030, but this certainly counts as a "faster than expected" estimate. This accelerated climate change will almost certainly make any possible adaptation much more difficult.

They are already changing the climate and picking our pockets.

98% chance 2023-27 will be hottest 5-yr period ever

The United Nations (UN) warned on Wednesday (May 17) that it is 98% likely 2023-2027 will be the warmest five-year period ever recorded and one of those years will the hottest ever as greenhouse gases and El Nino together push up temperatures globally.
  10. 98% chance 2023-27 will be hottest 5-yr period ever.

Again, the Earth used to be a ball of molten rock...so no

I think “ever” probably means “since record-keeping began” in this context. I mean if you wanna go back even farther it was way hotter right after the Big Bang. Something like 10 billion kelvin

I'm sure it does...but just another example of their poor communication skills and "open to interpretation" statements.
  13. That’s a fair point, the communication on this issue uses a lot of hyperbole and fear mongering

Wildfire smoke is transforming clouds, making rainfall less likely

A new study finds smoke could be making it harder for clouds to drop rain and alleviate drought, potentially kicking of a “very scary” feedback loop.

Alright, how about Neanderthals? How were they about keeping weather records?

Motherfucker, people didn’t even know what temperature was until like the 1700’s so let’s assume it was sometime after that
