I deleted my Twitter account because going on Twitter makes me a worse, less happy person. So I'm poasting here instead.
I hate modern anime subbing/localization.
Everything Big Boss Locksneedfartin was twitter-ranting about in this video is accurate. Localizers used to respect the source material more. They used to respect the intelligence of the audience more. For example, "Edomae Elf". "Edomae Elf? Yeah let's just translate that to 'Otaku Elf'." OTAKU IS A JAPANESE WORD. If the dang show was supposed to be called "Otaku Elf", it probably would have been called "Otaku Elf", don't you think? Fucking localization dipsticks. Working in close collaboration with the marketing department, no doubt. ("Otaku Elf! We'll have the weebs saying 'ohhh she just like me fr' and eating out of the palm of our hand!")
Suggestion: DON'T TRANSLATE IT (but if you must, ffs, not... to another Japanese word). It's kind of a pun, it's descriptive, it's a good title. Two syllables! A new two syllable word? Westerners could never. Just let people figure out what "Edomae" means. Let them make the connection between the show talking about Edo Japan all the time, and "edomae". Let them look it up if they're interested.
If you absolutely must market to weebs, "edotaku elf".

I'm sure he had like 10000 trannies seething at him for daring to criticize Les Artistes™ (localization is not art, it's like... art adjacent - the art already exists, and ideally you aren't there to bring your soul or to "make it your own"; you're just there to make it work... with some rare exceptions). Can't really blame the guy for going off on them. I woulda done the same. Then deleted my account.
It's fucked too because he didn't even start off criticizing gay culture war shit (and there's definitely shit to complain about on that front, way more than there should be), he was just criticizing people for needlessly taking liberties with their localizing.

What social media do Japanese people use/?/
Tweeter and Loine, if anime is to be believed. You can often see them idly chatting on these apps when they're standing in line at Mcdymaid's or Standbakes.
