2023-03-18 at 4:25 AM UTCI'm thinking Warhammer 40k of all things was strangely prescient with their 'dark age of technology' - AI automation is destroying the value of technical and mechanical skill (not 'mechanical' as in expressly to do with machines, but the actual process of doing anything, art is a good example) which over time will not only degrade culture but also have a dysgenic effect.
people looking at it now often think this will give 'creative' people more value over the technically skilled, but creative success is more random than actually quantifiable and misses the bigger picture entirely - access to AI, and hence the ability to translate ideas into reality is reliant on access to raw computing power.
it's strange that such a tool for central consolidation of power has most of its support base in crypto and decentralised currencies and networks -

Yeah I read something like that in the future all technical stuff will basically be automated and not require egg heads running everything on Linux at least to the extent it is now

I find it interesting how a lot of this is paralelled with fiction, The Anti-AI crowd reminds me of the newspaper articles in HiTMAN BLOOD MONEY (there are ZERO good pics of the 3-4 papers that mention CLONING TECHNOLOGY and the public reaction to it)
but basically in the plot of that game /series is based around the technology of cloning and in BLOOD MONEY there are two presidential candidates, one pro cloning and one against and as you go through the game KILLING CLONES and being a clone that kills. Public opinion changes throughout the story which is a very minor detail as you only learn about this from the end of mission newspaper articles
