DVD to digital file
-
2023-03-22 at 3:24 PM UTCI've played with DVD to digital format in the past and it was a pain in the ass.
I'm looking to transfer some "home video DVDs to digital as easily and cheaply as possible...format doesn't really matter as I have unlimited storage so file size isn't an issue (and as for quality these were originally VHS to DVD anyway so they look like ass to begin with).
Anyone got a suggestion for ideally "free' software to do this without a fucking water mark or file size limit or jumping through hoops to get it working..and also for 'lazy mode' where I just click a "convert to" button or some shit and off it goes without it fucking up the audio or having to rip the audio separately. -

2023-03-22 at 3:45 PM UTCif I remember right there shouldn't be any copy protection on home-recorded DVDs so you can just copy the raw files off and use something like vdubmod to encode them to mp4 or whatever format you prefer
been a LONG time since I've bothered with that though -

I'll check it out...about 15yrs ago I paid a VHS to DVD company to transfer my old home VHS to DVD (mainly because they were PAL VHS and I didn't have a PAL VHS player here in the US)...so as you say I doubt they copy protected it but who knows, maybe they did so you'd have to buy more copies off them rather than just copying it yourself.
Any other suggestions from other people appreciated.
It's looking that one or both my parents are not going to see 2024 so I figured it was time to make sure the vids are safely backed up to digital in case of DVD rot. -
2023-03-22 at 3:49 PM UTCthey used to give our freeware that do all these things when you buy a new dvd reader/writter.
i think it was some nero suite or something. -

2023-03-22 at 3:57 PM UTCwindows are natively able to extract .iso file of optical discs.
its right click and then something. -
2023-03-22 at 3:58 PM UTC"mount"
I think I might be able to just copy the files over though as you both mentioned, I'll give it a go. -
2023-03-22 at 4:03 PM UTChow hard is it for you to google.

I googled before asking...the results were unsatisfactory. 100,000 links to software that could be full of malware, watermarks homo erotic discourse etc etc.
It's much easier to ask someone for a straight answer than having to trawl though hundreds, thousands of links and possible candidates.
You'll learn kid...a REAL man is not scared asking for suggestions. -

i think mount is to put an iso image file into yiur dvd drive so as to simulate a virtual drive without needing to have the actual disc.
Yes...it mounts digital ISO files on a virtual CD/DVD/Bluray player...but that doesn't have anything to do with and actual DVD because there is no .ISO on an active DVD...an ISO IMAGE is MADE from a CD/DVD.
