Cuz like I said, the experience is almost identical to using something like Netflix, but you can customize it with multiple shares.
It's easy to use it on your TV and other devices too.
Or I guess if you want to just do torrents yourself and have your own storage, you could just have your own Plex server.
The cool thing is the TV and movie based shares actually have superior quality to Netflix, Amazon. apple etc.
So if a movie is available on BluRay with Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision IQ etc you actually can't even get that quality and bitrate etc on any streaming sub. It can go to like 200MBPS+ on DV content with Atmos audio.
Whereas e.g. Apple TV+ caps off at like 40 MBPS
They have Discord bot based systems where you can request any content they may not have etc as well and it does it within minutes.
I don't want to wait for any downloads, I just want to browse and stream.
set up the seedbox, anything you want to watch just send the torrent file there and once it's done (the one I used to use had like a 200mbps connection) you can either download the files with s/ftp or just stream directly from there -

Okay but that's what I'm talking about, you're fundamentally missing my point, it's the "once it's done" part.
You are not able to "channel surf" at all with this seedbox setup or just torrenting stuff.
Same applies to any variation of this that involves you first downloading the files yourself to some specific location you control and then streaming from that location you control.
You are basically just describing what the Radarr and Sonarr system (Lidarr for music) perfected for piracy.
You tell your *arr bot or app what you want, it will torrent it to your home or cloud Plex server and you can watch it yourself.
*Arr system is free and basically what Plex shares use anyway.
I don't want to have told my server what I want to watch now, 10 minutes ago. And I don't want to wait 10 minutes or even necessarily download a whole episode of a show to click into it now.
That's why people get STREAMING subscriptions.
And I'm also not in the business of running my own personal streaming service, ultimately I am just trying to watch some movies and TV shows without fucking around.
You are just suggesting unbelievably more fucking around... When it actually makes way more sense to centralize those steps and have someone else do them. Then just pay them a token fee for it.
E.g. Some guy maintains like 90TB of S2 buckets with all the major foreign TV shows released in the last 30 years in maximum quality.
I don't want to actually keep fucking 30 years of foreign TV shows anywhere just to have them available to surf for myself. And if I even setup a cloud storage that big with a curated library of my own... I would just sell people access to that Plex share for a nominal fee cuz otherwise I am just maintaining giant cloud storages for myself, for what, just for me to not have to download them time-of? Why couldn't I just let someone else do the rest of that bullshit then and share from them?
The key part you're missing is the value of the "surfing" aspect.
There's a huge difference to being removed from something that catches your interest by even like 10 seconds.
As opposed to "go browse this huge library and click on any one, you're already in".
It is a kind of lost form of entertainment now that nobody watches "TV channels" any more but channel surfing used to be an "active" form of TV viewing. Commercials on this one channel may mean you're flipping to a whole other brainwave on this other channel right here.
Streaming services aren't quite like that (nothing is quite like that any more) but they're much closer in the "browse a big library" aspect. -
