2023-03-09 at 1:16 PM UTCI just found out some did like jack anmd daxter so why didnt more?
-
2023-03-09 at 1:21 PM UTCBecause widescreen TVs were not so much of a thing when the PS2 was released...duh.
-
2023-03-09 at 1:35 PM UTCyea true but how hard would it have been for them to future proof their games or add the feature like jack daxter did? couldnt have been difficult.
-
2023-03-09 at 1:36 PM UTCalso why so few games supported 480p when even the dreamcast did and only supported 480i?
-
2023-03-09 at 1:41 PM UTCIn 2000 I still had one of those dumb projection TVs...a widescreen OLED TV as thin as your dick wasn't even on the radar.

2000s plasma tvs were the hotest appliance in town.
literally.
In 2000 I'd only been in the US 3yrs, I was still building my American Empire...a $5,000 plasma TV was not on the menu.
ETA: I didn't even get a cell phone till 2004, mostly because I thought they were dumb. -

with HDMI/DP output you can detect the output resolution and render to that
the old RCA transmission was one way and nonstandard resolutions/asspect ratios were rare enough at the time that it wasn't worth adding the options -

I lived great.
It's 2023 I probably only use 30 mins talk time a month even now. It's primary use is email/youtube/taking upskirt photos etc. I hate phones.
Nothing more cringe than sitting in a waiting room or at a social event and every motherfucker has their head buried in their phones like zombies. -
2023-03-09 at 2:27 PM UTCI literally have turned on my 'smart plasma does everything but suck ur dick tv' once or twice in the past like 3 years just to make sure it works
-
2023-03-09 at 2:32 PM UTCBecause it was before widescreens were even a big thing?

They seriously thought analog was the be it end all of tech along with CD and ARM MIPS based processors.
Lesson learned there now you can release laser printing falcon delivery packet protocols and people will be like "omg they did that 20 years ago!"
For all we know now all future tech will run off brains in jars , just stick a chip in the brain and keep it alive with brain juice and you have your own super computer
But it runs off that new kind of non AC/DC electrcricity -
2023-03-09 at 2:33 PM UTCARM is king though

2023-03-09 at 2:33 PM UTCmine lasted until the turn of the decade when the battery got pregnant and i got myself some 2g phone people threw into electronic devices recycle bin.
that lasted a few years until i got myself another 2g phone in like 2012 and its still in use today.
i didnt have a smartphone until like 2015 and only bought my first one in '18. it still working great with the only problem being the battery got pregnant again a few months back, which i changed myself.
china makes wonderfull $100 phones and i love china. -

yeah from the sound of it most PS2 games are hardcoded to 4:3 because there was no way to automatically detect other ratios and they were uncommon enough for most games not to bother giving the option to change it manually
if you've got a halfway decent computer a 'modern' ps2 emulator will render to whatever resolution/ratio you want
