and of course once video of anything can be generated so accurately that it's impossible to tell apart from reality, the next logical step is to wire it directly to the visual cortex so we can ostensibly visualise whatever we want, but in practice will allow service providers to inject media at will
https://theintercept.com/2023/03/06/pentagon-socom-deepfake-propaganda/The pitch document, first published by SOCOM’s Directorate of Science and Technology in 2020, established a wish list of next-generation toys for the 21st century special forces commando, a litany of gadgets and futuristic tools that will help the country’s most elite soldiers more effectively hunt and kill their targets using lasers, robots, holographs, and other sophisticated hardware.
Last October, SOCOM quietly released an updated version of its wish list with a new section: “Advanced technologies for use in Military Information Support Operations (MISO),” a Pentagon euphemism for its global propaganda and deception efforts.
The added paragraph spells out SOCOM’s desire to obtain new and improved means of carrying out “influence operations, digital deception, communication disruption, and disinformation campaigns at the tactical edge and operational levels.” SOCOM is seeking “a next generation capability to collect disparate data through public and open source information streams such as social media, local media, etc. to enable MISO to craft and direct influence operations.”

Military Information Support Operations (MISO): MISO technologies for influence ‘operations, digital deception, communication disruption, and disinformation campaigns at the tactical edge and operational levels. + Provide a next generation capability to collect disparate data through public and open source information streams such as social media, local media, etc. to enable MISO to craft and direct influence operations and messages in relevant peer/near peer environments «Provide a next generation of “deep fake” or other similar technology to generate messages and influence operations via non-traditional channels in relevant peer/near peer environments. «Generate next generation capability to “takeover” Internet of Things (IoT) devices for collect data and information from local populaces to enable breakdown of what messaging might be popular and accepted through siftingof data once received. This would enable MISO to craft and promote messages that may be more readily received by local populace in relevant peer/near peer environments.

instead of using it as a weapon to falsify information for mass consumption, you could generate false media almost in real time and specifically target a single person until they completely snap
hack their computer, their 'smart TV', their mobile devices, whatever they use to stream digital media - hell a government could save the effort and just force streaming companies to inject media going to specific targets with 'deepfaked' content
imagine how you might react if you were doing a Lord of the Rings marathon and Legolas turned to the screen at 4am and told you to kill your bitch wife, only not for it to be there when you rewind
the same thing happens in various other TV shows, news streams, whatever else you watch every few days and you're never actually able to prove it happened at all
it just gets more and more frequent
you could try to record the TV with your phone or something but the recording corrupts or gets overwritten -

2023-03-09 at 2:50 AM UTCThey deserve it for paying attention to media instead of descontruxting the messaging behind it
