“ Some people express the idea that all conflicts, including the Russian-Ukrainian war, can be peacefully resolved, meaning without the use of force (militarywise). If they really think so, it’s a cognitive attribution mistake. In simple words, people tend to think that other people are thinking and behaving similarly to them, and when you predict the reaction of other people, the dominant logic is “If I was him/her, I would…”. This logic works only with likewise people and completely fails with someone who has different ideas of right and wrong.
There is a good Maori - Moriori story to illustrate this. Both tribes descended from the same ancestors. Maori took New Zealand, and Moriori took small Chatham island. After 800 years of separation (in 1835) they met again. By that time, Maori were people with aggressive warlike culture while Moriori were hunters and gatherers that lived peacefully. So then a ship with over 400 Maori disembarked on Chatham and started attacking 2000 Moriori. Moriori suggested the peaceful distribution of resources instead of fighting. As a result, Maori were hunting Moriori like animals, for entertainment, and for food (yes, they ate them). Only 101 Moriori out of a population of about 2000 were left alive. During the following enslavement, the Māori invaders forbade the speaking of the Moriori language. They forced Moriori to desecrate their sacred sites by urinating and defecating on them.
If Moriori fought from the beginning, they could have won, even with big losses.
The same situation is with Russia-Ukraine now. We do not want war, they want it and they are coming to us. It's on our land. They are removing any signs in Ukrainian, and changing books in schools. They are defecating on the floors of occupied flats. They are raping women and even children, and executing men.
But unlike Moriori, Ukrainians choose to fight, not follow to the slaughterhouse like cattle. And anyone suggesting a "peaceful resolution" is voting for the genocide of the Ukrainian people that are left on the occupied lands and encouraging another, bigger war in several years,
You cannot talk the same language with people who do not share your values. You have to talk the language they understand.”
