    doubt it's worth it though; the amount of power the government exerts over peoples' everyday lives is fucked and about as bad as it is here. when tthings get really rough over the next few years it's going to get compounded

    You guys are just as strict. Unless I become rich and/or famous, I'd be denied entry to the US too (even that's no guarantee, but money talks and bullshit like having having celebrity status to lose really puts uncle Sam's mind at ease). My best hope rn would probably be applying for permission to enter the country in advance, which if I recall correctly costs something like $1000USD. And that's just for the privilege of having your application reviewed and given a bit of thought - it's not like it guarantees entry, or necessarily even improves your odds of being permitted entry into the US. I'd like to believe it does improve your chances, but honestly the option probably just exists so relatively wealthy individuals with spotty, criminal histories can avoid wasting their time on a flight/in line at a border crossing when they're destined to be turned back.
