So somebody could snap a picture of the self-checkout clerks little barcode badge and then watch(or record) them typing in their PIN.

Once obtained, someone could maybe ring up a bunch of Visa gift cards at $500 each and then maybe like over-ride it as a cash transaction even though no cash was paid.

It’s easy phone app (use barcode easy or something similar) scan said barcode as she comes over. Shoulder surf to get the pin, I’ve seen em enter the PIN code so many times but I forgot it lol 😝 either way they or the cctv will see you messing with the checkout

Once while ringing up items on the self checkout I came across an item that had no barcode. The employee scanned his badge and typed in a price. Right after he walked away, a video played on the screen that showed the employee ringing up the item with me standing next to him and asked if I wanted to proceed. It was like a warning to let me know I was on camera. I read on Reddit that this happened to someone else.

There are basically cameras everywhere. The trick is to not look at them.

They are watching what you scan and the contents of your cart...if things don't match up you get stopped at the exit by the retarded greeter.

    myth.

you need at least a person to look at the CCTV for every self checkout counter for this to work effectively.

the reason self checkout counters are installed is to reduce the amount of workers needed to mend the counters, and having to hire a worker to monitor each of these self-checkout counter defeats this purpose.

    so no.

i'm usually too busy running out of the store vaulting over their gay ngieiger security flaps (yes they added those here, no it's not JUST BECAUSE OF ME)

self checkout is too chaotic for security to hang out there constantly, their tactics seem much more oriented to identifying people before they get close to the door and they catch them on the way out. I don't think self checkout is a big priority as long as you have enough dumb fucks like me that just run out the door with arm fulls of shit

we out here improving your shopping experience, or ruining it more

so? they will never check those lol , unless you were really blatant and they needed proof, rarely does anyone actively monitor cameras

They’ll catch it way before the exit. I had two of the same items that I was self checking, among other things, I had one item in each hand….I scanned one and put the other in the bag, same items no diff right?! Wrong…..the scanner stopped working and the help light started flashing..the help guy came right over to check it out, after I explained what I was doing he checked & showed me the video.

Always assume big brother is watching 👀

Wrong, It's 2023..the computers can figure it out without a $12hr worker.

Go to the discount rack, Peel off stickers from cheap food. Put it over the bar codes of things you want. You can also go to the deli and order 1/4lb of something cheap like potato wedges, and then 2 lbs of wings and chicken tenders. Then just scan the wedges 3 x and instead of $9.99/lb, the wings and tendies are now $1.49/lb

Again..2023...the computers alert suspicious activity...they don't need a person watching anymore.

    https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-tracks-theft-with-computer-vision-1000-stores-2019-6

Walmart is using computer vision technology to monitor checkouts and deter potential theft and other causes of shrink in more than 1,000 stores, the company confirmed to Business Insider.
The surveillance program, internally called Missed Scan Detection, uses cameras to help identify and correct checkout scanning errors and failures.
