And you choose to spend that limited time sitting on your couch, watching TV. Life is passing you by.

    ?

I'm not sitting on my couch and I hardly watch TV...last night for example I was desoldering IC29 on a ZX spectrum 128k toastrack motherboard and then installing a unrainer replacement chip to try and fix a memory paging problem that the board has...didn't fix the problem though...most of my "free" time is spent productively...or in the pursuit of a productive result.

    What were you doing??

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$

ZX spectrum 128 "toastrack" models are very collectable as they are the rarest of the Spectrum models. Preservation is also a worthy pursuit...there are many "lost" arts and objects throughout human history that could have been preserved for future generations to enjoy...I'm literally a hero of history for doing this.

I disagree but also don't see anything wrong with what you are doing and believe any market activities are noble in their own regards but are not the same as training career skills which is the central theme of the thread

Yea you could read a electronics book and learn soldering but it's not like the electrics courses at DeVry let me tell ya

It's exactly like the electronics courses...the only difference is you don't pay $$$$ to have some guy tell you "errr buy and read this text book".

You know when Nasa wanted to put man on the moon...they used maps drawn by amateur astronomers...because those were the most detailed maps available...

Formal education is for the dumb.

I mean I'm all about clandestine DIY self taught man stuff but think the mentality that all schools or courses are worthless is silly as I have learned a lot from them myself

And I quit school to work full time so I am not a school guy student guy yeah 30 year old student btw . I meet lots of people my age like that and it's like the opposite where they are stuck being a student forever and never actually do anything

But regarding hardware preservation I think it is ultimately pointless and I had a good post as to why similar to this but this is all I can find , similar belief that most technology if lost wouldn't be that much of a "loss"

media is not timeless but technology is and new media can be created from what is around. I would rather save as much potential as possible than see any shadow of the former world.

I would even seek out and destroy all film and television and make a computer virus that deletes it and put a copy on every CD-ROM with free operating systems I give out for free in my trade so it spreads far and wide, hopefully.

All classical works and cultural arts are useless to preserve except for historical purposes.
