Because then you don't have to burden your 'friends' with lukewarm messages of: "Hey imma off myself, thought you should know, BYE"
In fact when someone disappears without a trace you can't be sure if they are dead or not, so why assume the worst. -

I’d rather they say if they were close otherwise I wouldn’t know to resent them or not for vanishing/not being a real friend, or to know what happened and still think of them as a friend. -

I get that, but not knowing allows room for hope and a bit of optimism. While death is final, and does not allow for any of those. So on balance if i had to pick i would pick the option that at least has some nice things in it. -

How would i know it's false hope? If one day someone i care about seems to disappear there is no way for me to know for certain that they are dead. And if the person in question went by the parameters i laid out in my earlier posts, they would never be found. So the hope is just hope. Because there can be hope as long as there is a chance, no matter how small.
