Definitely some cavemen shit. Which is to say, a social process deeply rooted in our evolution, biology, and psychology. Since you're his waifu you need to recognize this most ancient of rituals. If scron is a man and not a pussy he will feel the need to protect you. Even if he gets hurt in the process. The point you're missing is that it is an act of love to sacrifice something of oneself for another, and due to the sacrifice he will have done his duty, and in it a noble deed.
Take this away from him, and you run the risk of damaging him far greater than any punch ever could.
And if he does not want to do it, for whatever reason, then he deserves nothing but scorn and mockery. For when the hour came, he was to busy with himself to fulfill his duty.
